Pet Rat Skin Irritation-What should you do?

One of the most common pet rat health problems is skin irritation. Many pet rats have shown signs of this condition which starts with scabbing around the mouth and ears spreading next to the back. The usual cause is known as the ring worm that generates this infection and it can be cured by Imaverol, a dipping solution that can be found with your veterinarian. It is indicated to be used in local applications for 3 or 4 times per day until there is no sign of the skin irritation condition.

When scabbing extends on the back, one might expect for motes to show in, as these tiny creatures are carried naturally in a very small amount. But once being there, they can increase their number creating problems to the pet health. The breed with pale coats is the most susceptible to fall victim to this unpleasant condition. Mites can be eliminated by a solution that is dipped, known as Ivermectin.

To prevent your pet rat from falling to skin irritation condition, make sure that you do not introduce too much protein in its diet or its food. Suffering from allergies, can be also a cause to generate the skin irritation. If the diet is the one that you suspect, you must consider feeding your pet rat a home made fresh food diet for approx 14 days, as during this period of time, the scratching will easily diminish until it disappears.
